Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach beginners?

Yes, I would be more than happy to teach you to play the piano from a beginner level right up to Grade 5. There is no prior piano playing knowledge needed before coming for your first lesson.

Do you teach young people?

Absolutely, I do teach younger students and children. From experience I have found that taking a half hour piano lesson each week during the school term works most effectively for younger learners, enabling them to build up the technical skills, knowledge and overall enjoyment from consistent weekly lessons. For more information simply get in touch.

Where do the piano lessons take place?

I am able to offer lessons from my home teaching space, located on Dunlady Road, BT16 1TT. It is a great place to learn to play the piano, with all the resources and equipment we need for our lessons.

Do I have to take grades?

Not at all, I tailor my piano lessons around the individual student - ensuring that they learn through a course of lessons that suit their aims and ambitions on the piano, as well as the style of piano playing that they are interested in. I am able to teach ABRSM Grades 1 - 5 for those students who are interested, but this is certainly not compulsory.

I also teach Music Theory to Grade 5 level as well for those students who are interested.

Do I need to get anything before starting piano lessons?

I recommend purchasing a decent quality piano, which will enable you to practice the different things we go over in the lessons. Apart from that, just a good dose of enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!

Am I too old to start learning the piano?

I teach pupils of all ages, you're certainly never too old to learn as long as you put the effort in!
