Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach beginners?

Yes, I would be more than happy to teach you to play the piano from a beginner level right up to Grade 5. There is no prior piano playing knowledge needed before coming for your first lesson.

Do you teach young people?

Absolutely, I do teach younger students and children. From experience I have found that taking a half hour piano lesson each week during the school term works most effectively for younger learners, enabling them to build up the technical skills, knowledge and overall enjoyment from consistent weekly lessons. For more information simply get in touch.

Where are you based?

I teach my piano students both at my home teaching space located on the Belvoir Estate, Belfast, BT8 7DN, as well as travel to my students homes to teach them there. As a mobile piano teacher I am able to cover the areas between BT1-BT10 and the surrounding areas. For more information please contact me - my full teaching address will be provided upon booking your first lesson with me should you choose to take your lessons at the dedicated teaching space in my home.

Do I have to take grades?

Not at all, I tailor my piano lessons around the individual student - ensuring that they learn through a course of lessons that suit their aims and ambitions on the piano, as well as the style of piano playing that they are interested in. I am able to teach ABRSM Grades 1 - 5 for those students who are interested, but this is certainly not compulsory

How long does it take to learn the piano?

I am often asked this by new students - it is a challenging question to answer, broadly gaining a basic understanding of the piano, as well as being able to play a collection of foundation level songs might take only a few months for those students who are dedicated and practice. However, that is not to say that they have learned the piano, simply moved onto the next level of a more pre-intermediate pianist. Therefore, focusing on the journey and the enjoyment gained as you learn new songs and execute the playing of these songs to a higher level will enable students to reflect that they can never really master piano, but they can have one of the most enjoyable experiences of their lives by acquiring the knowledge of how to play the piano at the best of their ability.
